iPhone Viewing Application

Follow

To view your aircraft's latest flight on iOS devices (iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch) you can use the Spidertracks app, downloadable from the App Store. Once downloaded, please follow these steps to set it up:

After downloading the 'Spidertracks' application, open the App. You will be required to enter your normal login email and password used on the application website (https://go.spidertracks.com) and then click 'Go'.

The next time you open the application you won't have to login, unless you have logged out.

Flying

The first page you land on is the Flying page, which shows you the latest location of all your aircraft. Clicking on the position report will show you the aircraft name, time of last point, speed and altitude.

By clicking on the arrow you can view the current flight.

Main Menu

Tap on the menu icon at the top left to open the menu. From here you can navigate to the History, Help, and Flying sections. You can also logout from here.

History

The History page shows you all your flights in chronological order. You can scroll down to load older flights, or pull down to manually load new flights.

The colour indicator beside each flight shows the current state of the flight:

  • Green indicates active in normal flight mode
  • Blue indicates active in Watch mode
  • Red indicates the Spider is under SOS
  • Grey indicates the flight is not active

Tap on the track to view it on the Apple Map.

The list also shows the distance and time of each flight.

Viewing a flight

From the Flying page, or the History page, a flight can be viewed. The flight will show all position reports and the position report GPS details.

The details box can be hidden by tapping or sliding the box down. The position reports information can be slid left or right to show adjacent position report details. Any points of interest will be shown in this information box also.

Each map can toggle between map, satellite, and terrain view. You can scroll in and out by pinching to zoom. By holding two fingers on the map and turning them you will be able to rotate the map to get a better view of a track.

    Hello

I like the new APP, but one of the issues I have, as with the old app, I have to keep refreshing to watch any new tracks. Am I doing something wrong , thank you

    Hi Ed,

I know the development team were looking into auto refresh as part of future releases. I will follow up with them on this. At this stage we are looking to get some good data on any bugs and feature requests (like this) and do a release at around 2 weeks from today.

    Thank you,

    Luke

    Hi Ed,

This update has been developed and is in the process of being tested. We are just working on a few more bugs and enhancements before we push this feature out.

    Thank you,

    Luke

I wouldn't mind not having an auto refresh if the manual refresh was quick and easy. The best way I have found to refresh the track is to go to settings and then back to tracks or dashboard. It takes several steps to complete. A quick refresh button would be just fine for me. Or am I missing something?

No you are not missing anything. We are close to an update on this.

Hello Luke, given our fleet size I did prefer the previous version of the APP as it was easier to navigate to the correct aircraft for its current position. I think this could easily be corrected by making the dashboard icons for the aircraft clearer and larger at the moment it is sometimes hard to tell if the grey icon is an aircraft or a city. It would be useful if the aircraft label was visible at all times. As previously noted at the moment it is difficult to refresh. A nice feature would be to add a request position now similar to the web site. Cheers.

Any release dates for the updates? I see the comments but there are no dates of the posts.

    Hi Claudio,

Sorry for the delay in response. Thank you for the feedback also on the iPhone application.

Our first priority with the iPhone application is getting the speed going quicker, especially for the larger organisations. This will require a lot of work on the back end database.

We have discussed the option to have an info button to show or hide the aircraft registration, I will bring this back into the mix with regards future discussions on the iPhone development.

With regards to the refresh, a number of people have been asking for the iPhone app to have a manual refresh so they can do it themselves. If you have any ideas around this please let us know. At the moment the app auto-refreshes every two minutes in the background.

    Thank you,

    Luke

Yes. An update now from the iPhone application would be useful to us.

I would really like to see more than just the last track. As just explained to Richard, found it a bit frustrating after a flight, short stop at fuel pump and then park, that the only track I can view in the app is the one from the fuel pump to the park. Having to use the site to see historical track is ok but not optimised for iPhone.

    Cheers

I second Nigel's request. You guys have done a great job on the iPhone app and have come through with improvements like the manual refresh. The ability to see only the last track is the only big shortcoming left in the app I think.

    Hi Nigel and John,
Thanks for the feedback on the iPhone app. We will take this on board as we look to improve this over the next few months.
    Thanks!

For some reason I can not see the direction and distance under Tracks? Is it an update bug or Iphone Setting? Regards

IPhone App seems to function quite well.
I am wondering if there is a possibility to add an option for a Hybrid view (or Google earth) of the map. We find ourselves mainly on the Satellite view for greater detail of location, however loosing reference to the names of towns, lakes, roads etc, sends a person back to the standard view. Avoiding flipping back and forth would be an asset.
Also if a 1 minute interval of location is being transmitted from the Spider, a 1 minute refresh rate on the app would be nice.
Thanks for continuing to explore ways to enhance your great product.
    Regards,
    Rod

    Hi Rod,

Thanks for the feedback on this. As luck would have it we are going to be doing a planning session for improvements to the iPhone application in the following two weeks. Post that planning session we will look to see what features and improvements we can do in the next month and a half.

If you have any further ideas, please let us know.

    Thanks,

    Luke
